About Variegata.Vienna
Welcome
Hello, I’m Manfred from Vienna, Austria.
My fascination with rare tropical plants has grown into a lifelong passion. What began as a personal collection has gradually evolved into Variegata.Vienna—an independent botanical project dedicated to documenting, researching, and preserving knowledge about the remarkable diversity of aroids.
Variegata.Vienna is not an online shop. It is a growing botanical encyclopedia, research journal, and digital library created for collectors, botanists, and plant enthusiasts who value reliable information, careful observation, and the remarkable diversity of tropical plants.
Our Focus
The primary focus of Variegata.Vienna is the family Araceae, with particular attention to:
• Anthurium
• Philodendron
• Alocasia
as well as other remarkable and lesser-known aroid genera.
Beyond species descriptions, the encyclopedia explores taxonomy, cultivation, botanical history, historical literature, and the scientific as well as cultural context surrounding these remarkable plants.
Our Philosophy
Every article published on Variegata.Vienna is built upon one simple principle:
“Knowledge should be accurate, transparent, and continuously refined.”
Whenever possible, information is based on original botanical literature, scientific publications, and historical sources. Practical cultivation experience is included where appropriate and is clearly distinguished from established scientific knowledge.
Rather than presenting assumptions as facts, we aim to make the current state of knowledge transparent. Questions that remain unanswered today may become tomorrow’s discoveries.
A Living Encyclopedia
Botanical knowledge never stands still.
New species are described, taxonomic concepts evolve, and experienced growers continue to contribute valuable observations from cultivation.
For this reason, Variegata.Vienna is designed as a living encyclopedia. Every article is carefully reviewed and expanded whenever new scientific evidence or well-documented cultivation experience becomes available.
Knowledge grows through continuous learning—and so does Variegata.Vienna.
Beyond Species Profiles
Our goal is not only to describe plants, but also to preserve their history, scientific context, and ongoing discovery.
Visitors will find:
• Botanical species profiles
• Cultivation guides
• Historical research
• Original protologues and translations
• Taxonomic information
• Literature references
• Field observations
• Ongoing research topics
Together, these elements create a deeper understanding of the remarkable diversity of tropical aroids.
Thank You
Whether you are an experienced collector, a botanist, or simply curious about tropical plants, I hope Variegata.Viennabecomes a place where knowledge is shared, discoveries are made, and a passion for plants continues to grow.
Thank you for visiting.
